The Conference Awards program was a highlight, given the challenging year experienced by all, with a number of successful exits being awarded best in their category, as well as the inaugural award for Excellence in Investor Reporting.

A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Peter Chapman of Accretion Investment Management. Peter is a 25 year veteran of the Private Equity industry, was the longest serving AVCAL Council member, and spent time throughout his career with Citigroup and Rothschild before founding Accretion.

Excellence in Investor Reporting
This award was given by a panel of LP judges who deemed that CHAMP Private Equity investor reporting met AVCAL reporting guidelines and exceeded industry standard. It is hoped that this award will become a mainstay of the awards program in the years to come.

AVCAL Portfolio Company Award details

 

Nominations for the 2009 Portfolio Company awards are now CLOSED.

 

The annual awards are presented by AVCAL and aim to recognise and reward the achievements, vision and entrepreneurship of companies that have made the best use of private equity and venture capital in their development.

Nominations are sought from AVCAL members for the following Investee/Investor categories:

Best early stage
Best expansion stage
Best management buy-out<$100m*
Best management buy-out $101-500m*
Best management buy out > $501m*
Best public to private


*Best manangement Buy-out categories are based on the value at which the enterprise was purchased.

These entries are judged on company's financial performance, return to backers and consistency. In addition the company's contribution to the economy, employment, innovation and industry competitiveness will also be taken into account.

 

To qualify, the nominator must:

  • Be a current financial member of AVCAL
  • Be authorised to provide the checklist stated information to AVCAL

 

For Investor/Investee nominations:

  • Ensure that the investment must have been made within the ten years to 30 June 2009; and
  • Ensure the investment must have been realised (at least 50%) in FY 2009;
  • Submit all nominations and information as requested via a secure database (you must email us to request access)
  • There are word count constraints that should be adhered
  • Have your submission sent to AVCAL by 5pm COB on Friday 7 August 2009
  • All nominations will be considered by an expert judging panel
  • The person signing the nomination form must be authorised to provide the information to the judging panel and to AVCAL

 

AVCAL Award for Excellence in Investor reporting

 

Nominations for the 2009 Excellence award in Invstor reporting is now CLOSED.

 

You will need to email us to request a nomination form.

This award seeks to recognise excellence in investor reporting by AVCAL member GPs (nominee) by assessing their adherence to the AVCAL guidelines and other core reporting attributes such as clarity and depth of information.  This award should ensure a continual raising of industry standards and the benchmarks by which the industry is measured.  It should also set standards to which the fund managers should aspire.

These entries will be judged by a panel of LPs and will use the criteria set out by the AVCAL Reporting Guidelines as the minimum basis for consideration.

Nominations can be made by GPs and LPs (GP must be a member of AVCAL). In either case, the information required by AVCAL judges to review the nominees will be provided only by the GP.

 

All submissions:

  • Sent to AVCAL by 5pm COB on Friday 7 August 2009
  • All nominations will be considered by an expert judging panel

  • If an LP is nominating a GP for the AVCAL Award for Excellence in Investor Reporting, the LP must have authorisation from the GP to nominate prior to contacting AVCAL for the nomination platform access

Judging Criteria:

  • The award will be judged on the quarterly report of all current funds under management for December 31 2008.
  • Further details will be provided in a document accessible to nominees within a secure platform provided by our Conference partner, Intralinks
  • The information in this platform is kept secure and is only accessible by user name and password by those authorised by AVCAL
  • AVCAL adheres to Federal privacy laws with respect to information provided to us.
