AUSTRALIAN INVESTMENT CONFERENCE 2019

More than 450 of the private capital industry’s leaders will attend the 26th Australian Investment Conference at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 11 and 12 September − the biggest gathering of private capital investors in the country.

Wendy Norris, Deputy CIO, Private Markets for the Future Fund – which has almost 16 per cent ($25bn) of its total investment in private equity − will give the conference opening speech this afternoon.

Discussing how the Future Fund is investing in private markets in a changing investment landscape, Ms Norris will tell the private capital industry that the emphasis the fund has placed on private markets investments reflects a “powerful trend in global investment flows”.

“Over the past 20 years we have witnessed a strong and sustained shift in the market landscape, with growing private markets on one hand and shrinking public markets on the other.

“Privately held investments have grown twice as fast as public markets in the last decade. Private markets now account for more than US$6tn of market value – almost 10 per cent of global investment assets.

“Consequently, when investors consider the investable equity markets, private equity is becoming an increasingly important consideration in their portfolio construction.”

Ms Norris’s speech will be live-streamed from the Australian Investment Council’s website at 1:45pm today: https://aic.co/conference2019

Australian Investment Council Chief Executive, Yasser El-Ansary said today: “The strength of Australia’s economy will increasingly become more dependent on our ability to support the growth and expansion of our unlisted business sector.

“Productivity gains and the creation of new employment opportunities will be driven by high-growth potential Australian businesses that can attract capital investment and strategic support from firms such as private capital funds.

“We are looking forward to some robust discussion over the next two days on the domestic and international megatrends that are shaping the private capital industry,” Mr El-Ansary said.
